Artifacts Repatriated to Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, SRI LANKA—Reuters reports that Dutch officials have repatriated six artifacts, including a cannon, a ceremonial sword, and two guns, to Sri Lanka. The artifacts were taken in 1765, when colonizing Dutch troops besieged the palace at Kandy, the last capital of Sri Lanka’s ancient kings. “These objects represent an important cultural and historical value and they are back in Sri Lanka where they can be seen by the Sri Lankan public,” said Dewi Van de Weerd, Ambassador for International Cultural Cooperation.
